Square Zeros Show Listings, Weds–Sat January 14–17

Square Zeros Show Listings, Wednesday–Saturday, January 14–17

Hold on, where did winter come from? It's was "winter" for so long and now it's WINTER. It's really, really cold. I wish I had something more creative to say besides "man, it's cold" but I don't. I'm going to warm up the way I know best — drinking a bunch of beers and dancing hard at shows. There are a lot of great things happening this weekend, and it all starts tonight...

Here's a picture from last weekend of Stonehenge Parnhasknakovsky, just to get you stoked.

[[WEDNESDAY, January 14:]]

1.21 Gigawatts is having an issue release party, and our friends Low Fat Getting High (Michael Sincavage, SZ #31) are going to spinning some classic pop punk/emo tunes. Baby's All Right, 10pm, FREE LINK

Orca Age, the solo project of Jeff from The Planes (SZ #2), is taking the stage tonight for what looks like may be a solo electric show (as per his Facebook poll). Or will it be acoustic? Find out Wednesday at Pete's Candy Store, 11pm, FREE LINK

The first of what will be a recurring party hosted by Jamie Frey (The Brooklyn What, NO ICE) called "El Goodo" (hell yeah) is tonight! Get the good times going with Paper Fleet (Jon Mann, SZ #10) w/ Oxenfree, Old Table, Graveyard Kids, DJ Mascis at The Gutter, 8pm, $7 LINK

[[THURSDAY, January 15:]]

In the event you were remiss and didn't see The Black Black (Jon Daily, SZ #26) last weekend, you have a chance to make amends as they kill it with Slang King, Antibodies, Mixed Doubles at Bar Matchless, 8pm, $8 LINK

The Black Black

[[FRIDAY, January 16:]]

Everyone loves shiny, new things — new bands with new songs and now — new venues. The Planes (Stephen Perry, SZ #02 and Brian LaRue, SZ #30) will be christening the new Bushwick spot The Shop (for SZ bands, at least) with friends Libel, Robot Princess, Gun Hoes, Major Crush at The Shop, 8pm $? It's gonna get loud tonight when your friends GYMSHORTS (SZ #27) head to town to play with those miscreants The Mad Doctors (Seth Applebaum and Greg Hanson, SZ #20) w/ Lumps and Wet Socks at Cake Shop, 8pm, $8. LINK

[[SATURDAY, January 17:]]

Back with more of their 12 Days of Art 2015, Brooklyn Wildlife is throwing a Fishnets and Ice Cream Party with burlesque, DJs, and performances by Stonehenge Parnhasknakovsky (Chris Carr, SZ #22) w/ Lilly Wolf, Ratchet By Nature, ETHEReyes. Secret Loft, 9pm, $5 early, $10 late. LINK

The Planes

Lou Reed is a New York icon. Doing him tribute is a challenge, but one that the brave are willing to undertake. At a fundraiser for The Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE) legal defense of those arrested in the Ferguson protests, our favorite local bands, including The Planes, are putting their own tunes aside to spend the night covering Velvet Underground at The Gutter, 8pm, $10 LINK

You can also spend the night getting down with our friends The Meaning Of Life (Marta DeLeon, SZ #08) at Cameo Gallery, 8pm, $8 LINK

Between fishnets and ice cream and barbecue and Lou Reed and loud punk rock...if you all can't find something that suits you this weekend, I quit (that's an exaggeration, no I don't!). Until then, check out last week's Picture Dump and stay toasty.
